![]() That same year, Canadian Beats named Gabriela Geneva as one of the Best Up & Coming Artist of 2016 in their Year In Review. Her early releases secured her opening spots for fellow Canadian artist Ria Mae at the Red River Ex in Winnipeg, Manitoba in June 2016, as well as Shawn Hook at the Queen City Ex in Regina, Saskatchewan in August 2016. The group disbanded in 2014 and NIIVA began pursuing a solo career under her real name Gabriela Geneva. The band independently released their EP “Back When They Were Good” in 2012, and supported the release with a tour of Western Canada. While attending high school in Port Moody, British Columbia, she joined a pop-punk band called GreenTree as a songwriter and as one of three lead singers. ![]() Although she consistently participated in performance groups from a young age, she did not begin actively pursuing a career in music until after she and her family settled on Canada's West Coast in 2007. NIIVA grew up and lived in Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
